Landfill Vapor Control Project – Santiago, Chile

Aura Engineering is a known leader in the vapor recovery and control industry. When most people think of vapor recovery and control, they typically think of industrial and terminal applications, but this is not always the case. Noxious vapors that need to be controlled can come from many sources outside an industrial setting. Several years ago, Aura completed a project south of Santiago, Chile to control vapors coming from a closed landfill. Aura was contacted to provide engineering, project management, design, and equipment for the landfill after the initial abatement solution failed to adequately destroy methane and other vapors escaping [...]

Designing Networked Terminal Infrastructure From the Ground Up in Mexico

Every terminal design presents its own set of challenges, but some jobs require a bit more ingenuity than others. Aura Engineering recently stepped up to deliver new services and capabilities in creating a fully networked, digital terminal infrastructure at a rail transloading facility in the mountains of San Luis Potosí, Mexico.  Aura was contracted to engineer the backbone of the terminal system from the ground up. Even after utility poles were erected  on-site and transloading equipment was built, no electricity, fiber optics, wi-fi, servers, or security was in place to automate processes. The electrical engineering experts at Aura went to [...]

Diesel Transfer and Storage Terminal – Blytheville, Arkansas

Recently, Aura Engineering (Aura) teamed up with Kinley Construction (Kinley) to assist a client with the recommissioning of a brownfield storage terminal and barge offloading facility. Before it’s recommissioning, the terminal operated as an anhydrous ammonia storage and transfer system originally constructed in the 1960’s. The terminal is comprised of two (2) 150,000 barrel working capacity tanks, interconnecting piping, pumping equipment, and a barge dock along the Mississippi River just east of Blytheville, Arkansas. The storage tanks and the barge dock are located approximately one mile from each other. One of the first steps in a recommissioning project such as [...]

Project Benefits Using AutoCAD Plant 3D

Over the past few years, here at Aura Engineering, we have moved towards using AutoCAD Plant 3D for an increasing number of our projects. We have found that this program not only helps our piping designers to increase their efficiency, but also provides many benefits to our clients. From a project’s conception, through design, construction, and then on to everyday use and maintenance, AutoCAD Plant 3D has been a proven time and budget saver when compared to more traditional two-dimensional programs. As the program’s name states, AutoCAD Plant 3D renders designs that are completely three-dimensional. Having three-dimensional designs available from [...]

We Answer Your Questions About Operational Reviews

What is an operational review and why do I have to do it?  Federal regulation 33 CFR 154 Subpart P, published in 2013, set the requirement that all marine vapor control systems (MVCS) must undergo an operational review (OR) by August 15, 2016. If your MVCS was commissioned between August 15, 2011 and August 15, 2016 then your system must undergo an OR before the five-year anniversary of your initial certification date. 33 CFR 154.2021 further states that after the initial review to be completed by 2016, or within 5 years of initial certification, all facilities must undergo an operational [...]
